Trump hits allies with metal tariffs; Mexico and EU vow to retaliate

President Trump is imposing steep tariffs on steel and aluminum from three of America's biggest trading partners — Canada, Mexico and the European Union.

The trade penalties, 25% on imported steel and 10% on imported aluminum, take effect at midnight, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross told reporters Thursday.

Mexico and the EU immediately announced plans to retaliate with their own tariffs against American products.

Trump cancels Singapore summit in letter to Kim Jong Un

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump will not meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Unnext month, he announced in a letter to Kim released by the White House Thursday morning, scrapping plans for what would have been a historic diplomatic summit.

"I was very much looking forward to being there with you. Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting," Trump wrote. "Therefore, please let this letter serve to represent that the Singapore summit, for the good of both parties, but to the detriment of the world, will not take place."

Ebola outbreak in DRC enters 'new phase' as it spreads to large city

(CNN)An Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has entered a "new phase," after it spread to a large city, the country's health minister, Dr. Oly Ilunga Kalenga, said Wednesday.

The new case of Ebola virus disease (EVD) has been confirmed in Wangata, one of the three health zones of Mbandaka, a city of nearly 1.2 million people in Equateur Province in northwestern DRC, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed Thursday.
