Mosque, church and synagogue to share home in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi (CNN)As world leaders gathered at the United Nations, the United Arab Emirates laid out its vision for religious harmony, unveiling plans for an interfaith complex in the country's capital that will house a mosque, a church and a synagogue.

Commissioned by the Higher Committee for Human Fraternity, The Abrahamic Family House will serve as a place of individual worship but also for inter-religious dialogue and exchange.

The initiative was born out of Pope Francis' visit to the UAE in February during which the Pope and the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb signed a joint declaration promoting human fraternity.

Sustainable development summit a reminder of ‘the boundless potential of humanity’

The first UN summit on the progress of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development closed on a hopeful note, with Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed declaring that the two-day event had been a reminder of “the boundless potential of humanity to create a better future for all”.

Ms. Mohammed told the delegates at the SDG Summit that she had been encouraged by the “spoken word, the voice of youth, the commitment of civil society, the power of an active citizenry and the leadership of our governments”, on display during the two-day conference.

Exclusive: Zarif threatens 'all-out war' in case of military strike on Iran

Tehran, Iran (CNN)Iran's foreign minister has warned of "all-out war" in the event of US or Saudi military strikes against his country, and questioned whether Saudi Arabia was prepared to fight "to the last American soldier."

Javad Zarif told CNN that Iran hoped to avoid conflict, adding that the country was willing to talk to its regional rivals Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. But Iran would not hold talks with the US unless Washington provided full relief from sanctions as promised under the 2015 nuclear deal, Tehran's top diplomat said.

Guterres calls for ‘maximum restraint’ following drone assault on key Saudi oil facility

The UN Secretary-General appealed on Sunday for “maximum restraint" following a wave of drone attacks claimed by Houthi rebels in Yemen, against two Saudi Arabian-based petroleum processing facilities, which threaten to disrupt global oil supplies.

Yemen-based rebels who have been fighting a Saudi led coalition, creating the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, said they were responsible for the aerial assault early on Saturday, but the United States said there was no evidence to back that up, and accused Iran of an “unprecedented attack on the world’s energy supply”.

‘Whole spectrum of Afghan society’ must get behind peace talks, UN envoy tells Security Council

The long Afghan conflict can only be resolved by “direct talks” between its own people, the chief of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) told the Security Council on Tuesday, underscoring that they must be inclusive and represent “the whole spectrum of Afghan society”.

“The events of recent days and weeks have shown, more than ever, the urgency of finding a political settlement to the long Afghan conflict”, Special Representative Tadamichi Yamamoto said.

Eye of Dorian is just off South Carolina's Cape Romain

The eye of Dorian is roughly 60 miles south of Myrtle Beach, according to the 2 p.m. ET update from the National Weather Service.

The Tropical Storm warning has been discontinued for the coast of Georgia and the Storm Surge warning has been discontinued south of South Santee River, South Carolina.

Dorian is moving toward the north-northeast near 8 mph. A turn toward the northeast is anticipated tonight, and a northeastward motion at a faster forward speed is forecast on Friday.

WHO welcomes Facebook commitment to stop vaccine misinformation from going viral

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Thursday welcomed Facebook’s pledge to ensure users can separate fact from fiction when it comes to vaccines, across its platforms from Facebook Search, to Groups, Pages and forums.

Following months of discussions between WHO and Facebook on the spread of inaccuracies when it comes to immunization, the social media giant has vowed to direct millions of users to “WHO’s accurate and reliable vaccine information in several languages, to ensure that vital health messages reach people who need them most”, WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebryesus said in a statement.
