Trump casts doubt on Russian election meddling ahead of Putin summit

(CNN)President Donald Trump continues to cast doubt on US intelligence assessments that Russia meddled in the 2016 presidential contest, just as his aides announced details of his upcoming summit talks with President Vladimir Putin.

"Russia continues to say they had nothing to do with Meddling in our Election!" Trump wrote on Twitter Thursday morning. He went on to question why US law enforcement agencies weren't investigating other perceived influences on the election, which he has repeatedly said was rigged for his opponent Hillary Clinton.

UN chemical weapons watchdog adds new powers to assign blame, following attacks

The United Nations chemical weapons watchdog voted in favour of a United Kingdom-led proposal on Wednesday, allocating itself new powers to assign blame for attacks.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons’ (OPCW), which is made up of Member States, voted by a margin of 82 in favor and 24 against – “to identify the perpetrators of the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian Arab Republic”, where the Fact-Finding Mission in the country has decided that weapons have been used, or are likely to have been used.

THE SAID PULL OUT OF UNITED STATES IN UN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL IS NOT GOOD TO HEAR WHICH STILL THEIR STRENGTH IN HUMAN RIGHTS IMPLEMENTATIONS AND ABIDANCE STILL NEED MUCH IN HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE WORLD. THE UNITED STATES STANDS IN PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS WAS CHALLENGED IN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL IN ISSUE OF ISRAEL AND PALESTINE SAYING BIAS TO THE COUNCIL AND LEAVE IT. THIS PRACTICE IS NOT FAIR AND A STRONG IN WIDE HUMAN RIGHTS UNDERSTANDING TO SPREAD IT IN THE WORLD. THEIR STAND IF IT IS TRULY RIGHT IN HUMAN RIGHTS IMPLEMENTATIONS THEY STILL HOLD IT IN THE COUNCIL AND WON IT OR THE EQUAL JUSTICE AND FAIR HUMAN RIGHTS ABIDE FOR PEOPLE.

US leaving UN Human Rights Council -- 'a cesspool of political bias'

Washington (CNN)US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley announced the United States is withdrawing from the UN Human Rights Council Tuesday, accusing the body of bias against US ally Israel and a failure to hold human rights abusers accountable.

The move, which the Trump administration has threatened for months, came down one day after the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights slammed the separation of children from their parents at the US-Mexico border as "unconscionable."

UN chief hails ‘very important role’ of Human Rights Council, as US withdraws, citing alleged bias

In response to the withdrawal of the United States on Tuesday from the United Nations body which is designed to promote and protect human rights around the globe, Secretary-General António Guterressaid that he would have “much preferred” the US remain.

In a statement issued by Spokesman Stéphane Dujarric, the UN chief said that the Geneva-based Human Rights Council was a part of the UN’s overall “Human Rights architecture”, which “plays a very important role in the promotion and protection of human rights worldwide.”

Singapore (CNN)Nearly five hours of unprecedented and surreal talks between US President Donald Trump and North Korea's Kim Jong Un culminated on Tuesday with fulsome declarations of a new friendship but just vague pledges of nuclear disarmament.

For Trump, that amounted to a triumphant outcome in his extraordinary gamble with the rogue kingdom's despotic leader. But there were scant details on what new commitments had been secured from Kim, even as Trump announced he would end the regular military exercises the US conducts with South Korea.

Universal access to modern energy is ‘catalyst of inclusivity’ – deputy UN chief

No single entity is large enough or has all the necessary skillsets to deliver the 2030 Agenda on its own, the United Nations deputy chief told a high-level meeting on the issue of transforming energy access in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs).

“To be strong partners of countries as they deliver the 2030 Agenda – across all SDGs [Sustainable Development Goals] – the United Nations too must change,” Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General, said Wednesday at the High-level Panel on Transformational Energy Access in LDCs in Geneva.
