MANILA, March 16, 2016— Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila will lead a full slate of

Holy Week and Easter liturgies at the Manila Cathedral, the mother church of the archdiocese .

Publishing the cardinal’s schedule Wednesday, the archdiocese said his Holy Week activities will begin with the Palm Sunday celebration on March 20, wherein he will bless the palms at 7 a.m. and preside at the Mass that follows.

The Easter Triduum starts on Holy Thursday, March 24, with the Mass of the Chrism at 7 a.m., preceded by the Morning Prayer. All priests of the Archdiocese of Manila attend this Mass which celebrates the institution of the priesthood.

Parishioners from all over the archdiocese also attend this Mass where the holy oils used for the Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Orders and the anointing of the sick are blessed.

At 5 p.m. on Holy Thursday, the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper is celebrated where the institution of the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist is recalled. A part of this Liturgy includes the “Washing of the Feet.”

This year Cardinal Tagle will wash the feet of 12 persons highlighting the importance of the elections and also giving recognition to people with disabilities, the youth, the women, the religious sisters and the people who serve others through their loyal labor.

Those whose feet will be washed include Commission on Elections Chairman Andres Bautista, Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting coordinator for the Archdiocese of Manila Jun Ochiangco, two persons with disabilities, two young people; two religious sisters; two women, and two from the Cardinal’s household— his driver and his family’s helpers for 30 years.

On Good Friday, the Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion starts at 3 p.m., to be followed by the Veneration of the Cross. The Reflections on the Seven Last Words will be held at 12 noon to 3 p.m. The Stations of the Cross will be held at 8:30 a.m.

The Easter Vigil, the mother of all vigils will start at 8 p.m.

There will be confessions at the Manila Cathedral on Holy Tuesday, Holy Wednesday, Holy Thursday and Good Friday. (CBCPNews)
