The public and security forces have started their preparations a week before the observance of All Saints' Day on November 1.
In his report on Unang Balita Tuesday, GMA's Nico Waje said several passengers were already seen flocking at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) to go to their respective provinces ahead of Undas to avoid the influx of people over the weekend.
PITX expects about 150,000 passengers to arrive by Friday.
The report said PITX is coordinating with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to ensure the safety of passengers and that there are enough buses to cater to them come Undas.
Meanwhile, over 1,000 police personnel will be deployed to Manila North Cemetery and other cemeteries in the city, Manila Police District director Police Brigadier General Andre Dizon said in an interview with Unang Balita.
He said motorcycle patrols will also be mobilized to monitor the situation around the areas.
“Dapat tayo ay maging alisto para maiwasan maging biktima ng masamang elemento. Gaya ng lagi nating ipinagbabawal, ‘yung pagdala ng bladed materials, mga baraha o pang-sugal na mga gamit, alcohol, mga loud music,” Dizon advised the public.
(We must be alert to avoid becoming a victim of bad people. Bringing of bladed materials, cards or gambling equipment, alcohol, and playing loud music are prohibited.)
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) also conducted clearing operations in roads leading to Manila North Cemetery to avoid heavy traffic on Undas.
MMDA said owners of towed vehicles would have to pay a P2,000 fine for first offense, and succeeding P200 fine per kilometer towed. They would also have to shoulder a P80 fine per day for the storage of their towed vehicles.
In Cagayan de Oro City, at least 600 uniformed police personnel will be manning the 12 cemeteries and other public places from October 28 to November 2, GMA Regional TV Cagayan de Oro reported.
There will be checkpoints to inspect prohibited items such as liquor and pointed objects. People are also not allowed to wear caps, shades, and hoodies, and stay overnight in cemeteries.
In General Santos City, the local government said it will make use of the occasion to ramp up its COVID-19 vaccination uptake by putting up vaccination sites in cemeteries.
“Kung nasan ang first aid station, ilalagay din natin ang vaccination station [We will put the vaccination station where the first aid station is]… We are bringing the vaccines closer to the people,” City Health Office head Dr. Jett Co said in an interview with GMA Regional TV One Mindanao.
In Cebu City, the Police Coordinating and Advisory Council recommended that people be allowed to visit their 21 cemeteries only until 10 p.m., according to information from GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak.
At least 400 police forces will be deployed in the city to ensure the safe observance of Undas this year. They also called for the installation of more CCTV cameras especially in major cemeteries.
The deployment plan of Naga City Police Office (NCPO) has also been put in place ahead of Undas, according to GMA Regional TV Balitang Bicolandia.
NCPO director Police Colonel Nelson Pacalso said that 500 police personnel will be deployed in different areas in the city. They will also set up two motorist assistance centers along the Peñafrancia Avenue and Diversion Road.
According to GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon, cleaning operations also started at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Dagupan City days before Undas. Several bags of garbage were collected in the cemetery.
Misting operations in flooded graves, and several schools and barangays, were also conducted to curb the dengue transmission in the city.
City authorities conducted road clearing operations in anticipation of heavy traffic during the holidays.
“May mga naka-park kasing mga single na motor tapos ‘yung mga nagtitinda…inaabisuhan namin ulit sila at sa ngayon talagang araw-araw kaming bumabalik,” said Anti-Littering Task Force chief Jong Serena.
(There are motorcycles parked [along roads] and we also advised the vendors...We are coming back every day to monitor.)
Meanwhile, in Pasay Public Cemetery, people were allowed to clean and fix the tombs of their departed loved ones until October 28, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
From October 29 until November 2, the cemetery will be open from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. for visitors. Vehicles will also not be allowed starting October 30.
Only fully vaccinated individuals, and kids accompanied by a fully vaccinated person, will be allowed entry in all cemeteries in the city, based on an executive order issued by the local government unit.
