Hundreds of thousands march in France as protesters clash with police

• General strike: French riot police fired tear gas in Paris and Lyon while scuffles broke out in Nantes and authorities arrested agitators who vandalized a Rennes hotel. But overall, the roughly 200 demonstrations across France on Thursday – attended by almost 600,000 people – remained relatively peaceful.
