The latest on the investigation into the attack in New Orleans that killed 15 people
At least 15 people were killed and dozens injured when a pickup truck plowed into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans early New Year’s Day in what the FBI called an “act of terrorism.” Authorities believe the driver wasn’t “solely responsible.”
• The FBI has identified the suspect as a Texas man and Army veteran. He was killed in a firefight with officers and had an ISIS flag in his vehicle. The suspect also made videos before the attack in which he said he joined ISIS, officials said.
• The attack in the French Quarter happened less than a mile from where the Sugar Bowl was to be hosted hours later, prompting a postponement of the annual college football game to 4 p.m. ET today.
• Investigators are looking into whether there are possible connections between the attack in New Orleans and a Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside a Trump Hotel in Las Vegas. Both incidents took place just hours into the new year. The vehicles used in the incidents were rented from Turo, the company said, and both suspects had a background in the US military.
