6 January 2017 – A joint United Nations agency study has revealed that Syrian refugees in Lebanon remain highly vulnerable and that despite living there for years, their economic situation continues to be difficult, leaving more than a third food insecure.

 ON THE ISSUE OF MERS VIRUS FROM MIDDLE EAST IT WAS SPREADING IN EVERY PART OF THE WORLD AND SOUTH KOREA PARTICULAR IN SEOUL WAS HIT BY THIS KILLER VIRUS.  THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION AND UNITED NATIONS AND FOREIGN COUNTRIES HAS TO RESOLVE THIS MATTER TO PREVENT THE SCATTERING OF TE VIRUS.  EVERY COUNTRY HAS TO WATCH AND MAKE MOVE AGAINST THE VIRUS NOT AFFECTING THE LIVES AND ECONOMY AND PEACE.

South Korea MERS outbreak: 6 dead; 2,500 quarantined; 1,800 schools closed

 

Seoul, South Korea (CNN)Outside of Saudi Arabia where the Middle East respiratory syndrome - or MERS - was discovered, the country that's been hit hardest has been South Korea. 

And the picture there grows dismal every day.

On Monday, South Korea reported its sixth death from MERS, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 87.

Liberia: working with communities is the key to stopping Ebola

Eight weeks ago, when Dr Peter Clement arrived in Lofa County, Liberia, from WHO’s office in Monrovia, 20-30 patients were coming to the Médecins sans Frontières (MSF) hospital with Ebola-like symptoms every day. People living in the community were afraid, civil unrest was simmering, and ambulance and health workers were being targeted.

Against United Nations security advice, Dr Clement travelled 12 hours over dirt roads to Lofa, near the Guinea border. Once there, he walked into the hostile communities and went straight to the chiefs. 

“In many years, you have not fought with these people,” he told them. “Now you attack them. They are not the enemy, Ebola is the enemy. If we don’t chase Ebola, it will kill us. You have to know Ebola to fight Ebola. Mobilize your people. Let’s get to know Ebola.”
